A lecture was organized by the Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies on August 18, 2018. The lecture was on the topic ‘This River is a Person! A revolutionary development in environmental planning?’ and was delivered by Dr. Hamish G. Rennie, Associate Professor, Department of Environment and Management, Lincoln University, New Zealand.
The speaker discussed the legal regime for the protection of environment in New Zealand including the Conservation Act 1987, requirements under the Treaty of Waitangi, Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Management Act 2005 and the Resource Management Act 1991. He also deliberated on the key court decisions on the point and critically appraised the jurisprudence developed thus far. The lecture concluded with an open house and discussion.
The lecture was attended by the students and faculty of CPGLS.
