I am privileged as a student of TERI and Civil Society Leadership Award fellow of Open Society Foundation (OSF) I am from Myanmar which is located between China and India as developing country. My dream is to find and facilitate University in my country where young people lack access to quality education from universities and to work as the policy advisor to national and regional government body youth-related issues such as education, empowerment, migration and so on. I have learned about TERI's Sustainable Development Practice course which is built on local experience with the global notion.
Hence, TERI is a place where I can reflect on my sound experience with the academic lens and teaching how to learn in an empirical way plus letting you learn in practice. TERI has a small campus but the dream is big in local and global context. Of course, I have struggled in academic life, but professors are always willing to assist you how you can apply your knowledge rather than your grades.
I am Cathy Hone Paing from Myanmar who is pursuing a Master degree in Sustainable Development Practices at TERI and studying Sustainable Development Practices program at TERI gives me more broader ideas of sustainable development aspects which equips me with technically and theoretically understanding of multi-dimension development context.
And this program strengthens my knowledge and capacity towards better competence through learning comprehensive interdisciplinary. So, I believe this Master program will enable me to be real development practitioner who can understand real ground situations of development issues as well as policy level understanding. Therefore, I am confident that after this Master program I will be prepared for mid-career professional set up too. And one absolute thing is that experiencing student life in TERI taking Sustainable Development Practices Master course will be one of my favorite memories ever in my life.
The discovery of TERI was a great joy, since it offers programmes that are very interdisciplinary in their scope. Moreover, this university also proved to be extremely international, enabling me to interact and exchange experiences with people whom I would certainly not easily meet in other parts of the world. When it comes to academic subjects, they are designed in a manner that you are bound to learn more about the subject than you would have ever thought of. Here at TERI, the question is not what to implement and how to implement, rather instructors will guide you how to develop your own solutions for your own problems while keeping other peoples experiences in your mind. It is truly an international experience being surrounded by various nationalities, diverse ideas and innovation. Furthermore experiencing new technology, access to facilities, sustainability and its friendly environment paves the ground to explore and learn more. Faculty members are always helpful and they offer additional assistance besides their normal office hours. I am really grateful to SCCF and TERI SAS for awarding me this valuable scholarship. If you want to get practical knowledge of sustainability, TERI is the only option to come for and realize the real world of practicability of research for sustainable development.
I came to know about the TERI University from internet. I believed that the place where I am going is a land of possibilities because TERI has a high reputation around the globe for its contribution on environment and sustainability issues. Most importantly, the TERI University website provided me with all the necessary information I required. It is an honor and privilege for me to be a part of TERI University, especially as a first Bangladeshi student. TERI University provides an excellent platform to acquire the necessary skills to build a sustainable world through personal initiatives and team work. This place is not only equipped with excellent academics but also conducts frequent seminars, extracurricular activities, guest lectures, which makes learning much more fun and applicable. As a foreign student, it is challenging to be part of a new environment but simultaneously it gives a chance to grow too. But I warmly thank SCCF and the TERI family for making my life comfortable and easy.
Owing to my ambition of becoming an academician and a researcher, I decided to join MSc immediately after my bachelors. I wanted to study MSc. Plant Biotechnology because it has lot of opportunities (recent biosafety research implementation and new strategies in biotechnology studies) in my country. My search was limited to Asia as affordability was a concern. Interestingly, my first result on google search was TERI University. I took my time but I was satisfied with what I found about the university. I was satisfied with the sustainability aspect of study, adequate number of people per class (30 max), the lab facilities and accreditation results. Finally I arrived in New Delhi on 15th July where I received a warm welcome from the university. The session started on 21st July and I had a lot of orientation fun. I am still yet to get fully acclimatized to the local accent and limited interactions due to language differences. But I enjoy the way my teachers encourage us to study and the company of my friendly course mates.
I'm excited to be part of the TERI University, which dedicated its effort for the advancement of sustainable knowledge with culturally diverse faculties and students. The practical, multidisciplinary and dynamic nature of the programmes offered by the University enable students to apply the knowledge taught in class on the ground rather than indulging in only theoretical orientation. Further, proactive and collaborative activities of the university with renowned foreign universities and other institutions offer unique opportunities of project cooperation, exchanges and scholarships to its students and faculties. Lastly, I recommend students to be part of this sustainable development oriented University and be involved in solving the challenges of sustainable development that the world faces.
One year before, sustainability was just a word for me, a word with rare possibilities. After 6 months involvement with TERI University, I have discovered it is a real possibility. Apart from enriching my intellect, I must say, staying at a foreign land has been eased up by TERI. Staying outside home country is said to be tough but for me the cooperation and assistance that I have received has made my experience so far, a comfortable one.
What I found unique about TERI University was the unique pedagogy and professional oriented education system. The University has a student friendly atmosphere with highly supportive faculties.
I came across TERI University through Open Foundation in Kabul. I was dazzled to know about the various courses offered and their structures.
MA (SDP) course structure seemed to me the best to join as its core principle is sustainability. I like it here, because of its wide theory and practical knowledge provided.
I am completely satisfied and it's because of the instructors and staffs are really helpful in the issue I face.
I am delighted to say that now I have completed my 1st semester in Teri University. I have groomed myself with ample of knowledge and experiences within this 6 month. There are many factors that brought me to TERI University. The most important one is the thirst of knowledge regarding sustainable development practice. Before coming here I had only heard about what sustainability is but after being a part of TERI University I came to realize its value and importance to almost every sector like Business, development , governance, policy making etc. As a student from Nepal, I have valued the opportunity of learning in such a rich and diverse environment. Highly qualified and supportive facilitators along with modern techniques of teaching, regular field visits, guest lectures from renowned professionals across the world, multicultural environment and a provision to choose various elective courses throughout the semester adds charm to the University. I am confident that I will be able to boost my academic as well as professional career after completing the two year Master program from TERI University. I would like to thank Open Society Foundation and TERI University for providing me an opportunity to be a part of this wonderful University.
