TERI SAS is offering a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Programme in Policy and Development Studies. This is a Four-Year Undergraduate Programme with multiple entry and exit options. The Programme is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature and scope, and aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the interlinkages among policy, development, and sustainability through a curriculum that includes critical evaluation of policies, the role(s) of governance, and experiential learning.

The contemporary challenges – climate change, poverty and inequality, health, war and political upheavals – cut across nation-states and therefore require a global perspective which is deeply embedded in the concept of sustainability. A global, holistic approach will require that development policies be formulated so as not to compromise the future needs of future generations. The synergy between policy, development and sustainability must be achieved on the principles of inter-generational and intra-generational equity and justice. The means to liberate individuals from such challenges require interventions in the spheres of policy and practice related to health care, education, the promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns, and participatory governance structures that foster equal access to resources and opportunities. The Programme integrates diverse perspectives from the Social Sciences, including Policy, Development Studies, and Economics, and aligns them with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), equipping the students with the requisite skills to engage with contemporary global problems.

The Programme aligns with the mandate of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that aims to provide a holistic and multidisciplinary education for students that would help them to develop their intellectual capacities, along with inculcating in them skills to understand the contemporary developmental challenges, critical thinking, communication skills and redressal of challenges through a combination of theory and practice embedded through the concept of sustainability. It aims to develop an international cadre of development and policy professionals, well-equipped to tackle the interwoven contemporary challenges of social and economic inequalities and the associated vulnerabilities arising from climate change, disasters, energy security, poverty, and geopolitics.

The courses offered across semesters are broadly based on five key verticals, which cover various aspects of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary learning:
 

• To assimilate multidisciplinary perspectives related to policy, development and sustainability
• To identify contemporary policy and developmental challenges and provide sustainable solutions to real-world problems through a combination of policy and praxis.
• To combine classroom teaching, theoretical understanding, and practical exposure through fieldwork, internships, and research projects.
• To gain critical and analytical skills related to policy processes, development challenges, outcomes and governance systems.

• Develop a strong understanding of Policy, Development and Sustainability, including key concepts, theories and approaches.
• Apply interdisciplinary understanding to identify and understand complex global challenges.
• Critical analysis of Policy, Governance and Practices to address these challenges.
• Develop policy-driven research through advanced skills in quantitative techniques and project management.
• Become responsible policy professionals, development practitioners, and sustainability leaders who can contribute meaningfully to national and global policy challenges.
• Bridge the gap between theory and praxis through field-based and experiential learning.

Senior Secondary School Leaving Certificate or Higher Secondary (12th Grade) Certificate obtained after successful completion of Grade 12 with a minimum of 50% or with an equivalent grade. Candidates with Science, Commerce, Social Science and Humanities backgrounds are eligible to apply. CUET Scores and candidates from NIOS are also accepted.
