For off-grid locations or places with less reliable power supply, a combination of renewable energy resources and battery energy storage can provide reliable power. The hybrid microgrid is useful small community with limited access to energy. They have high importance for isolated communities in hill region and island. The experiment in this laboratory is to test the performance of solar PV, wind turbine and battery energy storage along with testing their combined performance under variable load condition.

Hybrid Micro Grid setup (A combination of multiple devices and tools)
The Hybrid Micro Grid (HMG) facility has been developed as a research facility using Polycrystalline Solar PV arrays, Wind Turbine with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator, Battery Bank and DC Loads. The HMG is powered by Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) comprises of a 200Wp wind turbine generator, 200Wp Solar Panel and two 12V, 7AH batteries connected in series. Array of LED bulbs are used to make the DC load simulator. The HMG is primarily be a laboratory simulator set up and used for carrying out power flow experiments by MTech and PhD students. The Distributed Energy Resources (DER) are placed on the roof top of our hostel block. The laboratory facility is active till the DC loads for experimentation & research purpose and ready to be integrated to the existing grid using inverter and AC loads.
