Dr. B. K. Bhadra is engaged as Professor of Practice (PoP) in the Department of Natural Resources at TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS), New Delhi, India. He received his M.Sc. (Applied Geology) and Ph.D. (Earth Sciences) degrees with specialisation in Himalayan Tectonics from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (erstwhile University of Roorkee). He has over 28 years’ experience (21 years R&D in NRSC/ISRO and 7 years teaching in Pondicherry Central University) in the areas of Remote Sensing Applications in Geosciences, Groundwater Aquifer especially Palaeochannel Studies, Groundwater Pollution, Site suitability for Hydropower Potential, Mineral Exploration and Arid Landforms on Earth and Mars. Dr. Bhadra did more than 40 projects (3 International Projects in UAE, Senegal and Myanmar, 6 National Mission Projects, 20 User Projects like India-WRIS, NHPC, GWD, HZL, CAIRN, RITES, Ambuja / Shree Cements, BLMC and other R&D projects). A Web GIS Application Portal on `Saraswati Palaeochannels’ has been prepared by the team and was launched on Bhuvan Platform of NRSC in 2022. Dr. Bhadra has been a core Committee Member in the Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India for palaeochannel study during 2015-2018. He is also an expert committee member of Haryana Saraswati Heritage Development Board, Govt. of Haryana. He has published more than 35 research papers in International / National Journals, contributed chapters in 8 Books, presented 31 papers in Seminar / Symposium / Conference and compiled 39 technical reports. Dr. Bhadra is the Author of `Dune atlas of Thar Desert using High Resolution satellite data’ which was released by the Director, NRSC/ISRO in 2020.
At TERI SAS, Dr. Bhadra is involved in teaching courses related to Remote Sensing (optical, microwave and hyperspectral sensors), Geoinformatics, Digital Image Processing, Applications in Land and Water Resources for societal benefits. As an Expert Committee Member, he is also advising in promotion of Remote Sensing Technology for the upcoming new curriculum at TERI SAS. While in ISRO, Dr. Bhadra guided more than 37 students for their Masters project/dissertation. His past experience in multifaceted research projects in the country and abroad will definitely boost up the research community at TERI SAS.
