Dr. Mayurika Goel received her Ph.D. Degree in Applied Chemistry from Division of Agricultural Chemicals, Indian Agricultural Research Institute and University of Delhi in 2013. The work entailed bioassay guided isolation and identification of secondary metabolites from Himalayan lichens as potential source of agrochemicals. During Ph.D., she worked at Institute for Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry, George-August University of Gottingen, Germany mainly on the characterization of lichen metabolites using spectroscopic techniques. Later she was awarded with European Union’s Erasmus Mundus fellowship (2012-2013) and worked in the Department of Chemistry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece under a program coordinated by Lund University, Sweden on metabolite profiling of lichens using hyphenated analytical techniques. Her current research interests revolve around the bioprospecting of indigenous bioresources like endophytic fungi, microalgae and lichens as a potential source for the bioactive molecules. The group majorly intends to explore lichen species, endophytic fungi isolated from medicinal plant parts and marine algae for useful metabolites with bioactivity guided isolation and identification of secondary metabolites. The bioactive metabolites are then explored for their potential as functional foods/additives/ antioxidant/anticancer agents.
