Success of TERI SAS alumnus brings pride and glory for the University.
TERI SAS had another reason to feel proud and jubilant as our alumni, Mr. Nishant Bhatnagar, M.Tech. UDM (2016-2018), represented India as the ‘World Youth Ambassador of Road Safety’ at 2nd World Youth Assembly and Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety 2020.
TERI SAS students from M.Tech. Urban Development and Management (UDM) participated in the National Workshop on ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Oriented Planning and Design for Small Cities and Community Participation’ organised by Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme (TRIPP), Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi in association with International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS), Japan at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Mr. Samradh Singh Chauhan, Project Scientist at TRIPP, IIT Delhi and TERI SAS, M.Tech. UDM (2016-2018) alumni, also presented his work on ‘Localising SDGs in Small Cities: Challenges and Opportunities’ at the event.
Dr. Deepty Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of Energy and Environment at TERI SAS was one of the panelists at the event. Dr. Jain has a Ph.D. degree in transportation engineering.
One of our alumni, Varsha Bhaskar, an M.Sc. (ESRM) student (2016-2018) at TERI SAS added another feather to our cap as she presented her major research at the prestigious Ecological Society of America. To add the cherry on the cake, her work was also showcased in a program on the famous wildlife channel-The Animal Planet..
One of our alumni, Ms. Ninika Dhawan, received Smt Kaushalya Narayanan Memorial Medal for Best Lady Officer Trainee, on the Occasion of Passing out Parade of the 69th Batch of Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect taxes and Narcotics.
She has also been selected for the Climate Force Antarctica Expedition 2020 with Robert Swan, OBE.
A TERI alumnus, David Michael Terungwa, Executive Director, GIFSEP; Africa Regional Coordinator, CCL and West Africa Coordinator ACRP, has been invited to speak at the 68th United Nations Civil Society Conference, “Building Inclusive and Sustainable Cities and Communities”, to take place from 26 to 28 August 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.
Ms. Sristi Kamal has been named the new Northwest Senior Representative in Oregon by the non-profit conservation organization, Defenders of Wildlife. Sristi holds a Masters in Environmental Studies from TERI School of Advanced Studies (TERI SAS).
On Tuesday, May 9th, the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC), based at Washington, DC, recognized ten organizations and one individual for their leadership in the sustainable purchasing movement, a growing trend in which organizations are using their purchasing power to advance the long term health and vitality of society, economies, and the planet.
The individual award was presented to Mr.Sanjay Kumar(TERI SAS alumnus - MA(PP&SD) Class of 2008 ), who currently serves as the Additional General Manager, Dedicated Freight Corridors Corporation of India limited (DFCCIL), Ministry of Railways, Government of India. The award announcement states: "Over a decade of tireless work at the national transport provider of India, Sanjay’s vision, leadership, and dedicated effort have been fundamental to the growth of the sustainable purchasing movement within his 20 billion dollar national railway company. His work has reduced Indian Railway’s carbon footprint by 1.5 million tons of CO2eq and saved over $9 million per year. Through active collaboration with international entities, Sanjay has become a recognized advocate for sustainable procurement on the global stage.
Ms Florencia, a student of M.Sc. (Geoinformatics, 2013-15 batch) and former SCCF scholar, received Nepal Bidya Bhusan Medal on World Literacy Day by President of Nepal, Ms. Bidya Bhandari in recognition of achieving gold medal for topping MSc Geoinformatics program from TERI University.This medal is awarded annually to students who top their respective academic programs from Bachelors to PhD.
Rohit Sadaphal, alumni of TERI SAS and CEO of Eckonirmitee Pvt. Ltd. was awarded "Leaders in Innovation Fellowship Award" by Govt. of UK and Royal Academy of Engineering, London in 2017. Eckonirmitee, a startup company, founded as an incubated project at TERI SAS in September 2013, was selected through an independent research carried out by IIM Ahmedabad on Top 10 innovative promising startups in Energy, Environment and Engineering sectors in India. The Fellowship awards are jointly selected by the Academy on the basis of excellence of startups in their research, the potential of their innovation, the social and economic benefits of their innovation and their potential as entrepreneurs.
Eckonirmitee offers integrated scientific waste recycling solutions to the Government and Private sectors inclusively by economically linking ecological conservation with creation of social infrastructure assets.
The startup has won many awards including "Startup India" company award by Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Govt. of India and Pune Yuva Innovator Award 2017 by CII and NITI.
The company has plans to develop carbon capture, sequestration and storage products and climate resilient infrastructure development in the areas of water, waste housing and transportation in drought prone rural areas of Maharashtra.
