Academic Chairs
UNESCO Chair
The TERI SAS has been granted a UNESCO Chair in Climate Science and Policy. This is a prestigious award and is given to very few universities across the world. The Deemed University has tied up with various global universities for being partners in the UNESCO Chair. This includes the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Stockholm, Sweden and the Yale Climate and Energy Institute at Yale University, USA. The purpose of the Chair is to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation in the fields of climate science and policy. It is also as an opportunity to create collaborations between research and teaching staff at the TERI SAS and other such institutes of international repute.
The Chair was officially launched on Friday, 9th November 2012 by the Director General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova, at the TERI SAS campus in Vasant Kunj.
Mr Surya Prakash Sethi has joined as UNESCO Chair Professor for Climate Science and Policy at the TERI School of Advanced Studies on 3 December 2018. Mr. Sethi retired from the key position of Principal Advisor Power & Energy and Core Climate Negotiator, Government of India, in August 2009.
HUDCO Chair
A Memorandum of Agreement had been signed on 29 February 2012 between the TERI SAS and Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO).
The objectives of this collaboration are -
(i) to establish capacities in the TERI SAS to accelerate research and development, training and capacity building in the Habitat Sector;
(ii) to support and undertake capacity building activities of urban local bodies with regard to specialized areas such as Human Settlement Planning and Design, Environmental Planning, Building Material and Technology, Economic Policy and Analysis, Regional Development etc.;
(iii) to promote research, particularly action research in the field of housing, urban development & related areas; and
(iv) to undertake any other activities that promote housing, urban development and effective management of urban areas.
