Abstract: This thesis encompasses the work done during the Engineering, Procurement and
Commissioning (EPC) of 730kWp rooftop solar PV power project in Chandigarh. The
project proponent is CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science & Technology
Promotion Society). The project was to be installed in different capacities at eight different
locations in Chandigarh. In this report the author presents the details about two sub-projects
at two different locations of 100kWp and 200kWp capacity. Further, an analysis was done to
estimate the reduction in energy generation requirement by the conventional power plants if
rooftop solar PV power plants are utilized to fulfill certain fixed percentage of energy
requirement.
The technical work resource assessment was done, with the help of PVSyst software, system
designing was done with the help of AutoCAD and PVSyst software .The author also visited
for technical inspection of the material procured.
The technical detail consists of capacity selection, location, site infrastructure, and
description of solar PV technologies, plant facilities, proposed site layout, comparative
analysis at different azimuth placement, structure placement considerations and system
design.
The potential of rooftop solar PV power plants to reduce energy generation requirement by
conventional power plants and hence reduction in emissions is done in analysis using data
from reports of government bodies.
