Abstract: In this report the work on one of the major thrust area of non-conventional energy source, Solar PV Power generation has been done. This 250kW solar PV power plant project is being setup at Rays Solar Park in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Solar park is a new concept in solar industry where common pool sub-station is being developed. A solar park will hold a number of solar PV power plants and manufacturing outfits, each developed by separate or the same groups/promoters. The number of solar PV power plant will be connected to the substation with RMU (Ring main unit).

This project is under REC Scheme and primarily have two sources of revenue; the Power that’s generated by the plant and sold at Pool cost to the DISCOM; and the revenue through REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) traded at Indian Energy Exchange.

The general site layout of plant has been designed based on modules rating as well as inverter rating, the number of strings and number of modules per string; also the combiner box rating has been used to make parallel combination of strings so as to increase the current ratings.

Based on latitude, longitude and its direction; optimum tilt angle, orientation has been found. The inter row spacing calculation has been done using dimensions of module, latitude and optimum tilt angle. Cable calculation has been done using percentage cable loss acceptable [normally approx 2 or 3%], system voltage, max current to be carried by the cable, max length of cable run required. Also with the ratings of source equipment, soil resistivity of the site, area occupied by the plant and weather condition the earthing layout has been designed.

33/11kV Substation for the 2.5MW capacity of solar PV power plant using 3.15MVA transformer has been designed. For future plan of 5MW solar PV power plant one more bay has also been designed.
