Abstract: Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), GOI has provided a guideline to all Central Public Sector Enterprises
to invest in sustainable development initiatives effective financial year 2012-13. The guideline covers projects,
activities, expenditure, documentation and monitoring of Sustainable Development initiatives. These activities
should be over and above the routine activities of the organization and could be implemented in their
operational areas or in communities. The guideline specifies the nature of activities where public sector should
invest. Public sector enterprises are expected to select five projects from the recommended list.
SoulAce is consulting organization where I got the opportunity to undertaken a preliminary study in a public
sector unit to propose a list of projects which the organization can undertake. I was involved in conducting
primary and secondary research on the possible initiatives – to advise the organization about emerging
developments in this field along with expected tangible and intangible benefits the organization could accrue.
During this project, study was conducted on opportunities that the organization should undertake - Rain water
harvesting in corporate premise, Emission reduction methods, Energy saving in electricity and others. A cost
benefit analysis was done for each of it wherever tangible benefit could be quantified.
