Abstract: This thesis studies the opportunities and threats of solar power with an emphasis
on the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. In the study the feasibility of the solar
projects with respect to social, economical, and environmental aspects have
been understood and interpreted in terms of opportunities and threats. Industry
attractiveness is evaluated based on above mentioned aspects which could give a
realistic scenario of the industries anticipating growth in this sector. Major
challenges for the industry are also touched upon to highlight the areas of
attention before the policy makers and other associated stakeholders. This study
report further includes the fiscal and policy analysis on how these can be
leveraged in the solar energy sector. In the later part of the report, the role of
tax and fiscal policies have been analysed in removing the barriers for the
promotion of solar energy, concluded by few recommendations and strategic
inputs which can help the small and medium entrepreneurs, bankers, venture
capitalists, EPC players, regulatory bodies in making informed business
decisions.
