Abstract: Climate change is a very crucial field where both qualitative and quantitative analysis have to be
undertaken to relate both changes and impacts to the issue of climate change experienced by a
state or country. Gujarat at present shows a great progress in agriculture, livestock (dairy
sector) and forestry sectors therefore with the advent of the issue of climate change it is very
essential to investigate the roles these sectors play as contributors or abaters to the overall
change experienced. It’s very essential that the pathway of progress be investigated with respect
to its nature of sustainability. This study is embarked on the concept of ‘Cause-Effect-Action’
loop causing this change. PSIR (Pressure-Status-Impact-Response) framework is the main
analysis tool followed, where the ‘pressure’ is estimated by using Greenhouse Gas Inventory
mandated by Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC 2006, 2003 and 1996) for the
agriculture, livestock and land use land use change and forestry sector. The ‘status’ is studied to
identify trends by making calculations for 100 year temperature and rainfall data, also analysing
the occurrence of extreme events like flood, draught, extreme heat and extreme rainfall events.
‘Impacts’ are analysed at two levels i.e. ‘Potential Impacts’ which are derived reviewing future
prediction models specifically for Gujarat and ‘Observed Impacts’ which are felt and
experienced by the state at present. Lastly ‘response’, refers to the analysis made in form of
various initiatives at government, NGO or community/village level. A very crucial role is fulfilled
by the role different stakeholders play in linkage with the technical analysis that altogether helps
the project in coming up with a very crucial component called ‘policy recommendations’ which
aims at helping policymakers, department heads and administrators to design policies keeping
the climate change perspective in mind.
