Abstract: The project titled Offgrid Electrification in South Asian countries Sri-Lanka and Nepal has
been written in the form of a case study taking into consideration the learning’s and lessons
learnt from off grid practises in two countries namely Sri Lanka and Nepal. The case study
looks into the details of the power sector in both the countries and also rural accessibility to
power in the respective countries and the difficulties which is encountered in providing the
last mile connectivity to the villagers which are neglected due to various reasons ranging
from the rough terrain to the financial insuffiency. Also, the case study looks into the
present status of off grid electrification, the financing options, the social and environmental
impacts and the suitable business models which are being practised or can be practised in
South Asian countries. Towards the end of the case a comparative analysis has been done
and a conclusion has being provided which aims at suggesting the best practises in providing
the last mile connectivity to the rural poor as it can give them a better standards of living.
