Abstract: The present atmospheric concentration of CO2 is about 383 parts per million (ppm) by volume. Future CO2 levels are expected to rise due to ongoing burning of fossil fuels and land-use change. The IPCC Special Report on Emissions Scenarios gives a wide range of future CO2 scenarios, ranging from 541 to 970 ppm by the year 2100. Fossil fuel reserves are sufficient to reach this level and continue emissions past 2100, this is substantiated with the IEA report that since 1973 to 2007 the CO2 emission has increased from 15640 Tonnes of CO2 to 28003 Tonnes of CO2 in which contribution by (Coal+ Oil+ Gas )only ,Which are main source of Thermal energy. more over it is pertinent to mention here that the concentration of 100 ppm increased from last 200 year of industrialisation in which half is increased from around 1800 to 1973 while another 50 ppm increase of CO2 increased very fast rate from 1973 to 2007.This increase of CO2 and other and Green house gases ultimately leads to increase the earth temperature and with these influences, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimates that the global average sea level will rise by 7.2 to 23.6 inches (18-59 cm or 0.18- 0.59m) by 2100 relative to 1980-1999 under a range of scenarios This will submerge many of islands and may leads to extinction of the many tribes & vegetation, as well as many effects on human and animal health agricultures product on quality and quantity both and ultimately on social & economic growth and GDP.

More over the sectoral Emission from energy sector is about 60%which is power & transport & Industry together. coal is main source of power generation in the world and shares the maximum part in the power generation fuel. Presently in India it is 52.8%.so one has to think the all possible measures to mitigate the emission from this coal source. This study is to look into the various aspect of energy generation by NTPC Ltd The measures taken by NTPC Ltd to take care of atmosphere & environment, now a day it is termed as “Greening power” at corporation level as well as local level NTPC Tanda.

This paper looked into the various improvements achieved in R&M of the Tanda project and also capacity utilisation to full level, (Period 2000-2010) .This paper tries to sum up all the achievement in Tanda which are capacity utilisation, efficiency improvement, and environment pollution abatement.

This study have also calculated the value of CO2 saved during the last 10 year, Coal saved due to efficiency improvement by R&M .Cash value saving by Coal , CERs generated due to saving of CO2.Ash generated savings,SO2 , NO2and SPM saved with the baseline scenario if R&M would not have been done (baseline 2000).

In totality the NTPC Ltd is committed towards environment and doing with all its strength and money infusion.
