Abstract:

This thesis explores the availability and disparity in healthcare infrastructure between two regions in Uttarakhand—Pauri and Srinagar. Using a mixed method approach combining primary data through field surveys and secondary data from government sources, this research identifies systemic shortcomings in Pauri compared to relatively better-equipped Srinagar. The analysis is grounded in cost-benefit analysis, contingent valuation, and the sustainable livelihood framework to assess socio-economic impacts, financial burdens, and healthcare accessibility. Results show higher resilience and accessibility in Srinagar due to its flatter terrain, presence of tertiary facilities, and better transport infrastructure. Recommendations include expanding primary healthcare facilities, telemedicine, and infrastructure development in remote areas. The study offers practical insights for providing healthcare access and policy recommendations for hilly regions.
