Abstract:

The exponential growth of quick commerce (Q-commerce) — ultra-fast delivery services that promise fulfilment within minutes has redefined consumer expectations in urban retail. However, this accelerated convenience is accompanied by significant environmental costs, particularly in the form of increased carbon emissions associated with last-mile logistics, packaging, and energy use. While global attention is increasingly focused on decarbonizing traditional sectors such as manufacturing and energy, Q-commerce remains underexamined in the climate action narrative.

This study aims to bridge that gap by critically analysing the decarbonization strategies and sustainability disclosures of leading Q-commerce platforms across geographies. It also evaluates consumer awareness and willingness to support environmentally conscious Q-commerce practices. A mixed-methods approach is employed, combining secondary research through global benchmarking of sustainability disclosures with primary research via consumer surveys to understand behavioural inclinations toward green delivery models.

The findings contribute to the emerging discourse on sustainable urban consumption by highlighting disclosure gaps, identifying best practices from global players, and assessing the feasibility of integrating consumer-side interventions. The study culminates in the development of a realistic and actionable decarbonization framework tailored for Q-commerce platforms operating in both developed and developing markets. In doing so, it positions decarbonization not as a constraint, but as a strategic imperative for future-ready Q-commerce.
