Abstract:

This paper examines the operability and effectiveness of Life Skill Education (LSE) programs, focussing on the non urban zones of Karnataka, to better understand how social sector design translates into tangible and perceivable outcomes, corresponding to the ground reality.

Research Problem: What are the measurable psychosocial outcomes of life skills education for adolescents in rural Karnataka? What contextual challenges hinder the successful translation of program design into field-level impact? How can existing gaps in delivery and assessment be addressed through improved design and stakeholder collaboration?

Main Objective: To analyse the differences between the program design and the program implementation of LSE programs. Furthermore, to create recommendations to boost program effectiveness of the same, as well as reducing the planning-implementation divide.

Key Methods Deployed: The paper utilizes surveys, both baseline and endline, to assess the difference, to draw conclusions about the same. The surveys were used to match the given life skill indicators using a life skill index. Based on the index, the findings were compared.

Key Findings: The paper concluded that there is incremental progress in most indicators. However, significant improvement was noticed in two indicators; Resilience, and Gender Attitude.

The paper then concludes with detailed recommendations aimed at strengthening the design, delivery, and evaluation mechanisms of said LSE programs for rural adolescents.

The research aims to contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable adolescent development, offering actionable insights for involved entities (NGOs, policymakers, etc) to help design a more effective and field ready plan for interventions.
