Abstract:

Recognizing the gravity of the pollution of rivers, the Government of India (GoI) launched a massive plan for their pollution abatement. River Yamuna being the one of the largest tributaries of Ganges is selected for undertaking pollution control. To control the level of pollution of River Yamuna, important measures are taken under Yamuna Action plan. The current study is carried by NJS Engineers India Private Limited one of the leading engineering consultancy service provider working on various water and wastewater project across India that currently focusses on construction of 564 MLD capacity Wastewater treatment plant at Okhla, New Delhi which is one of the prioritized project under Yamuna Action plan Phase III. The design criteria for designing of treatment plant is adopted from unpublished Detailed Project Report/Bid Document for the Construction of 564 MLD (124 MGD) Wastewater Treatment Plant under Yamuna Action Plan Phase III. Process calculations of each treatment unit is done as per CPHEEO manual, Metcalf and Eddy. Hydraulic profile diagram is calculated to give the treatment units and piping an elevation and a hydraulic gradient to ensure gravity flow through the treatment process. Finally the costing of wastewater treatment plant is done based on per MLD basis derived from “Sewage Treatment in Class I Towns: Recommendations and Guidelines” published by IIT Kanpur.
