In recent years, the global energy landscape has undergone significant transformations, driven by the pressing need to mitigate climate change, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and promote sustainable development. Biomass briquettes have emerged as a viable alternative to traditional fuels, offering potential solutions to environmental and energy security challenges. This study aims to analyze the industry from a business perspective, encompassing SWOT analysis, value chain mapping, and a sustainable business model canvas. Additionally, it evaluates the sustainability impacts of the industry through a triple bottom line analysis and identifies opportunities for sustainable growth, proposing strategic recommendations for enhancing sustainability and competitiveness.
The methodology involves collecting and analyzing data from industry reports, academic research, and case studies. Results indicate that leveraging economies of scale, setting up fragmented production facilities, utilizing multiple biomass sources, and advancing briquetting technology can significantly improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The triple bottom line analysis highlights the environmental benefits, such as lower carbon footprint and reduced air pollution, while also considering economic and social impacts.
The study makes a case for promoting biomass briquette industry as it is sustainable in terms of the triple bottom line as well as the business perspective. Implications of this research suggest that with targeted interventions and technological advancements, the biomass briquette industry in India can significantly contribute to sustainable energy systems, promoting environmental sustainability and economic development.
