Abstract:

The automotive industry is undergoing a transformative shift toward sustainability, driven by the urgent need to address climate change with a special focus on the value chain emissions as they contribute the most to a company’s value chain. This report details a comprehensive value chain mapping of the carbon footprint of TVS Motor Company, the third largest third-largest motorcycle company in India by revenue and fifth largest motorcycle brand in the world. Following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) framework, the study assesses emissions across the entire value chain of TVSM, encompassing Scopes 1, 2, and 3. A detailed breakdown of emissions sources from scope 3 is provided, with particular emphasis on the calculation of emissions from category 11, "use of sold products” for facilitating on its journey of Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) target setting after inventorying its Scope 3 emissions. As this analysis is crucial for establishing ambitious and achievable emissions reduction target of 1.5 degrees Celsius aligned with SBTi's science-based approach to mitigate climate change. The report offers valuable insights into the company's environmental impact and paves the way for developing effective decarbonization strategies.
