Abstract:

This study looks at the relationship between children's rights and environmental concerns, with a focus on children from underrepresented areas. It examines how the current environmental crisis impacts these children as well as their capacity to stand up for environmental protection and their rights if given the necessary support and training. Studies show that children in poor communities face significant challenges as a result of environmental degradation and climate change. It also highlights the shortcomings in government programmes that, by failing to address the needs of these particular children, worsen their situation.

One of the most significant findings is that children from low-income households typically don't know they have rights, such the right to a safe environment. The study emphasises the importance of education in giving young children the knowledge of their rights and the skills required for effective advocacy. It suggests that including child rights and environmental education into curricula in schools and community events can significantly increase their ability to advocate for the environment and for themselves. The study also demonstrates that children are willing to get involved in advocacy if they are provided with the right tools and encouragement. Based on their readiness, it appears that these young champions have a great deal of potential to support bigger environmental sustainability activities and enhance their local surroundings.
