Abstract:

This thesis presents an inclusive analysis of patents in the field of phototherapy devices used for skin treatment, focusing on a trajectory driven by biotechnological breakthroughs. Phototherapy devices have transformed the area of dermatology by providing successfully advanced treatment choices for a variety of skin disorders such as psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema, acne, and some other health conditions like jaundice and cancer. The research explores the trends in technologies, molding the area of phototherapy for dermatological applications through a systematic assessment of patent literature. Utilizing patent analysis methodologies which are advanced, including analysis of citations, clustering of keywords, and mapping the research identifies major areas of innovation and ideologies involved in this sector. It evaluates the landscape of patents across multiple categories of light-related therapy devices including nanotechnology and nanomedicines in enhancing the efficacy of phototherapy, the role of bio-photonics, UV, LED, and photodynamic therapy, elucidating patterns of intellectual property protection, and competition within the industry.

Furthermore, the research looks into the geographical distribution of patent activity around the globe. This thesis underscores the methodologies utilized in the process of analyzing existing patents while filing new inventions.
