The paper looks at the Water Energy Food security Nexus or WEFnX, the background literature along with literature related to the Indian context. On top of reviewing the literature, an analysis of policies relating to the WEFnX and their impact on the elements and synergies between them has been done. Post review and analysis, three policies were found to affect all three components of the nexus directly, out of which one policy was taken: PM-KUSUM, which stands for Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyaan with a budget of over 34,000 Cr. INR. This policy was taken in order to assess the impact of policy on the nexus using nightlights data gathered from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite provided by the Earth Observation Group and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Nightlights have been used as a proxy for economic activity. The analysis shows the positive impact of the policy on the luminosity value, i.e. a proxy for economic activity, despite facing the challenges of an exogenous shock. The results show that the policy helps in following sustainable development, i.e., utilizing resources judiciously while improving upon the growth and development of society.
