Abstract:

The Jal Jeevan Mission, a pivotal initiative by the Government of India, seeks to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) to every rural household, thereby ensuring safe and adequate drinking water for all citizens. In alignment with this mission, the Jal Mitra app project specifically targets the water-related challenges prevalent in the Bundelkhand region of India. This project is systematically divided into two primary segments: the development of comprehensive training modules and the implementation of capacity-building programs aimed at the local youth.

The core objective of these training modules and programs is to develop a skilled workforce capable of operating, maintaining, and managing water supply infrastructure effectively. By equipping young individuals with the necessary technical skills, the project aims to ensure the long-term sustainability and efficiency of water supply systems in the region.

Integral to this initiative is the development of the Jal Mitra app, which plays a crucial role in the efficient operation and maintenance (O&M) of water supply infrastructure. The app functions as a platform that connects skilled youth with consumers, facilitating the provision of essential O&M services. This connectivity ensures consumers have reliable access to support and services, enhancing water supply systems management and sustainability. This project not only addresses the immediate need for reliable water supply but also fosters community involvement and sustainable development by empowering the local workforce.

Through this comprehensive approach, the Jal Mitra app project contributes significantly to the broader goals of the Jal Jeevan Mission. It indirectly ensures reliable water supply, enhances service delivery, and supports sustainable development in the Bundelkhand region. Ultimately, the project exemplifies a model of integrating technological solutions with community’s capacity building to address critical infrastructure challenges.
