Abstract:

Green hydrogen in recent years found traction on being used as an energy transition element for creating a net-zero future. Recognizing its potential applications in various hard-to-abate sectors many countries released their strategy for a smooth transition towards hydrogen economy. But still there are few back thoughts among stakeholders, creating a void in the growth of sector in the form of financial gap, this study is done in respective to find and fill such gaps to portray the potential of green hydrogen among stakeholder and to gain confidence among them. One of the limiting factors is the take-off cost, having a dilemma of whether the hydrogen produce through green source will be cost competitive with the fossil-based hydrogen or not and the other limiting component is improper investment planning among the country. To address the mentioned issues an excel based quantitative analysis have been performed in this study for selected countries to estimate the levelized cost of green hydrogen for current and future scenario considering various parameters, followed by that country wise electrolyzer requirement has been calculated according to their planned hydrogen end use among industries in the future which helps countries to plan their investment strategy. It is found that in 2050 average cost of green hydrogen will be 0.85 USD/kg, which aligns with the estimated LCOH of world bank for considering green hydrogen as a net zero transition element. The investment strategy among the countries will help fill the financial gap given by McKinsey analysis. Moreover, the analysis result will help the policy makers, project developer and other stakeholders in creating an optimized business model for a green hydrogen ecosystem depending on their countries capability.
