Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the development of a customized tool for consultancy services to compare biogas projects with other projects having similar risk profiles, while aiming to provide cost- effective solutions for resource efficiency. Resource efficiency encompasses the effective utilization of natural resources, energy, and inputs while minimizing waste and pollution which is important for business to be sustainable as well as being economically competitive. Biogas technology, derived from anaerobic digestion of organic matter, offers numerous benefits such energy generation, waste management, soil improvement, and water conservation. The Indian biogas market is valued at USD 1.40 billion and projected to reach USD 2.25 billion with a CAGR of 6.3% by 2029, owing to attractive government incentives. To facilitate decision-making and ensure financial feasibility, a comprehensive biogas tool was developed. This tool enables consultants to assess various parameters such as raw material, biogas utilization, and capacity requirements, along with key metrics like biogas potential, thermal energy, electricity generation, annual savings, payback, NPV, IRR, and PI. By streamlining the evaluation process, the tool saves time and offers valuable insights for consultancies. The thesis contributes to the field by addressing the need for a user-friendly and comprehensive tool that compares biogas projects with alternative technologies with limited inputs.
