Abstract:

In the face of the pressing challenge of climate change, the imperative to attain a future with net-zero emissions has become a top priority worldwide. The energy sector plays a crucial role in this endeavor, requiring a comprehensive strategy through effective decarbonization levers. This study aims to explore the implementation of a net-zero strategy and examine the various levers that facilitate decarbonization in the energy sector. The study focuses on investigating the key components and targets of a comprehensive net-zero strategy for the energy sector. It examines policy and regulatory frameworks that can drive decarbonization efforts, considering their effectiveness in promoting sustainable practices. Technological options and innovations for decarbonizing different subsectors of the energy industry, such as electricity generation, transportation, and heating/cooling, are analyzed to identify the most viable approaches.

Moreover, the research delves into the obstacles and impediments related to the extensive implementation of renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power. It investigates the integration of renewable energy technologies into the existing energy infrastructure to achieve net-zero emissions. Role of electrification and the adoption of electric vehicles in contributing to net-zero emissions. International collaboration and knowledge sharing are evaluated as facilitators of effective decarbonization strategies in the energy sector. By employing a descriptive research approach, this study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of net-zero strategy implementation and decarbonization levers in the energy sector.
