Abstract:

This paper aims to investigate the progress made by banks in developing and developed countries in the area of green loans and sustainability. The objectives of the study are fourfold. Firstly, it seeks to compare the advancements made by banks in developing and developed countries in terms of green loans and their commitment to sustainability. Secondly, it aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the concepts of green loans and green bonds, highlighting the differences between the two financial instruments. Thirdly, the paper aims to explore whether developed nations are providing financial support to developing countries in their efforts to mitigate climate change and examines the concept of climate finance within this context. Lastly, the study compares the volumes of green loans and total loans of ten banks each from developed and developing nations, providing insights into the allocation of financial resources towards green initiatives in these countries. The findings of this research contribute to the understanding of the progress made by banks in promoting sustainable finance in different regions of the world. It sheds light on the financial support provided by developed nations to developing countries in addressing climate change challenges. The comparative analysis of green loans and total loans among selected banks provides insights into the allocation of financial resources towards green initiatives. This paper aims to contribute to the existing knowledge in the field of sustainable finance and provide useful insights in the area of climate change mitigation and sustainable development.
