The Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) framework is a voluntary reporting framework for Indian businesses. This study explores the BRSR framework to look into the voluntary disclosure practices of Indian companies. The purpose of this study is to conduct a gap analysis for a company to comprehend the disclosure gaps and determine areas where sustainability disclosures could be strengthened. The companies that have been taken by market cap include eight industries. As ESG investing has been a trend, the study additionally collects the opinions of investors via a questionnaire to determine the value of BRSR for investors.
The research identifies a number of areas where sustainability disclosures can be improved, including Human right, supply chain management, Customer Centricity, transparency, environmental footprints, LCA, R&D and capital expenditure investments, and community involvement. The survey results also show that institutional and retail investors in India are becoming more aware of and interested in sustainable investing.
In conclusion, aligning India's BRSR framework with global standards and sector-specific disclosures is essential for transparency and sustainable practices. This is crucial due to the increasing focus on sustainable investing, ultimately paving the way for a sustainable future and attracting responsible investment to India's economy.
