High Conservation Values (HCV) refer to exceptional biological, ecological, social, or cultural worth, as defined by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). High Conservation Value Areas, on the other hand, are natural settings that possess significant or crucial significance due to their exceptional biological, ecological, social, or cultural values. Since its introduction, the HCV concept has demonstrated its effectiveness in identifying and effectively managing the social and ecological worth found within production landscapes. This project on application of High Conservation Values in Manas National Park is a critical review on how Manas National Park is a High Conservation Value Area. It is expected that there are many more areas of High conservation value which need protection. With the help of application of High Conservation Values in Manas National Park, similar application can be done in other areas which shall help in their conservation and improvement of these values. This project work aims at being an example work for High Conservation Value application in different landscape areas.
This study on applying high conservation values in Manas National Park, Assam, and identifying High Conservation Value (HCV) places in the landscape will be helpful in maintaining these Values in the national park and also in identifying the places in this landscape that are expected to be of High Conservation Value. Ten or so areas in the Manas Landscape were identified that can be of high conservation. These territories include the Dhalpani Forest block, Mas Bhandar, Shankarghola Forest Reserve, Green Valley Forests, Khaling Duars Forest, Aie Valley, Nakkati Hill, Saralpara, Kharpanigaon, Atherikhat Jangle.
The High Conservation Value Application was done in Manas National Park with the help of primary and secondary data and information from experts and articles, books, government reports, various websites and other open government database platforms. Since, High Conservation Value Assessment is a 2 years project work, that involves extensive field survey and expert knowledge, this work is an attempt for identification of the areas for applying High Conservation Values in different areas of Manas Landscape.
The Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) is built around carbon standards. The regulations and requirements for VCM projects and programmes are set and managed by carbon standard groups, who also accredit, issue, and permit the trading of carbon credits. Verra Registry oversees the operation of Climate Community Biodiversity, which was created by Climate Community Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA). The registry offers discussion times, keeps track of the creation and cancellation of any Verified Carbon Unit with a CCB Label, and provides comment periods.
