Abstract:

The research study aims to explore the intricate connection between climate change, sustainable development, and the textile, leather, wood-based, and construction industries. It acknowledges the critical importance of taking immediate action to combat climate change and its associated risks while highlighting that the industrial sector has towards addressing its high greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and further working towards addressing and integrating sustainable practices.

The study explores three High Greenhouse gas emitting industries and their subsequent challenges, issues and impacts. It further showcased through a mixed method approach how the industrial sector encounters issues such as high energy consumption during wet processing stages and financial limitations that hinder the adoption of sustainable practices, particularly among small-scale producers. Similarly, it addresses the struggles selected industries face to meet stringent environmental regulations due to limited access to capital, making investing in cleaner technologies and pollution control measures difficult.

In addition to that to contribute to evidence-based policymaking and effective climate change mitigation strategies by analyzing industrial initiatives, identifying opportunities, addressing challenges, and exploring potential developments. It underscores the critical role of the financial sector in understanding climate-related risks and integrating environmental factors into investment decisions.

Ultimately, this research focuses on a comprehensive examination of the efforts made by the textile, leather, wood-based, and construction industries to reduce GHG emissions and transition towards sustainable practices and further delve towards a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between industrial activities, climate change, and the urgent need for effective global action to mitigate the destructive effects of climate change on the environment and the society as a whole.
