Abstract:

The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) and the Net Zero Insurance Alliance (NZIA) have become pivotal players in the financial and insurance sectors, spearheading the charge to combat climate change and foster sustainable practices. The primary objective of this thesis is to delve into the profound influence of these two initiatives on the investment strategies of insurance companies. The study will rigorously analyze the collaborative efforts of PCAF and NZIA and their role in prompting insurers to incorporate comprehensive carbon accounting methodologies, as well as align their investment portfolios with the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

To accomplish this, the research will draw from a combination of empirical data, case studies, and industry insights. It aims to discern the extent to which PCAF and NZIA are reshaping the investment landscape within the insurance sector. Beyond merely assessing their influence, the thesis will also investigate the potential consequences on insurers' investment decision-making processes, risk assessment, and overall sustainability practices. This research provides a critical examination of how these initiatives are contributing to the transformation of insurance companies into responsible stewards of the environment, aligning their financial strategies with global climate objectives.
