Abstract:

India doesn't take into account the local socioeconomic system or make sure that residents are included. Participation is hindered by factors such as the predominance of higher caste and wealthier people, a lack of group dynamics, a lack of local needs and institutions, ambiguous property rights, and restrictions on the accessibility of inputs like loans and extension services.

Major districts in Odisha contend that better local institutions, a broader resource base, and equal access to water are necessary for more effective management and development of local water resources. The study region located at the base of the steel and mining industries also depleting the quality of water and the exploitation of groundwater by construction excavating deep borewells up to 1800–2000 ft in search of water and increasing the contamination of portable drinking water is a major concern. As for the participatory of community villagers they are mostly involved in goatery farming and their primary crop paddy is also a concern as they still have a difficulty in producing secondary crops due to lack of water availability and their depletion rate. The paper presents detailed representation on the livelihood and water practices and management in the regions of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal.
