Abstract:

This report emphasizes Sustainable Water Management in Agriculture, specifically in the context of Kota, Rajasthan. The state relies significantly on agriculture. The irrigation of agricultural fields is the most water-intensive sector. Therefore, to meet the demand of the growing population, the rate of extraction of water has increased. This has led to a decrease in the level of groundwater in the district. To help mitigate the impacts of water scarcity, it is crucial to optimize water use efficiency and implement conservation measures. Focused water distribution to plants is made possible by the use of efficient irrigation techniques like drip irrigation and sprinkler irrigation, which reduce runoff and evaporation. The objective of this study is to assess the current water management practices in agriculture in the Kota district, Rajasthan, including the methods of irrigation, water use efficiency, and water conservation techniques. The second is to explore the potential solutions that can be implemented to address the challenges identified and promote the adoption of sustainable water management practices in agriculture. This paper will also discuss the economic, social, and environmental benefits of adopting sustainable water management practices in agriculture, including improved crop yields, water conservation, and better livelihood opportunities for farmers. Further to propose well-founded recommendations that support the implementation of sustainable water management practices in agriculture. These recommendations are crucial for ensuring the long-term viability and resilience of agricultural activities in the region.
