Abstract:

Water ecosystems offer a wide range of products and services that can be utilized by human such as boating, swimming, and fishing opportunities for people, enhancing the happiness and satisfaction of communities nearby. However, these services are often ignored when making choices regarding distribution of water, pricing of the water commodities and amenities among others. Ecosystems can now be assessed based on their overall economic worth using the Travel Cost Method (TCM).

The goal of the current study is to assess recreational use value of Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh, India. Sukhna Lake is one of the most highly used and popular visitor destinations of all Chandigarh recreation sites, attracting 2000-3000 visitors a day in peak periods.

The goal is to employ Individual Travel Cost Method to calculate the use value for the services provided by the lake's facilities. The data collection was completed through direct interview with 134 visitors at Sukhna Lake using a questionnaire. The annual use value came out to be Rs. 1,47,28,142 for a sample of 134 users.
