Abstract:

Public parks, which serve as an example of urban green spaces, have been extremely effective in preventing urban environment degradation while maintaining the rate of urban growth. Nonetheless, many local governments and communities face challenging difficulties when it comes to the creation, upkeep, and protection of the quality of public park amenities. It is essential to have a well-established process for evaluating public park services in order to determine how users will benefit from them in terms of both total cost and trip costs. The Travel Cost Method (TCM) method emphasizes the primary purposes of public parks as seen from the viewpoint of the users. This study intends to find the Total Economic Value (TEV) consumers attach to Lodi Garden using the Travel Cost Method (TCM). In order to find the TEV, a survey was done for 167 respondents visiting the Lodi Garden. The use value of Lodi Garden, based on the sample of 167 visitors, was estimated to be Rs. 31,09,045.51. Lastly, this study will help policy makers to estimate the economic value of urban parks across India.

Key Words: travel cost method, economic valuation, urban public park, recreational benefits.
