Abstract:

The urgent need to tackle climate change and also reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has led to heightened public awareness and increased commitment to adopting comprehensive policies. Alongside policy changes, voluntary individual and corporate actions play a crucial role in generating public support and awareness for addressing climate change. Carbon offsetting has emerged as a strategy to compensate for emissions by supporting projects that reduce or absorb GHG emissions elsewhere. However, concerns regarding the effectiveness of carbon offsetting mechanisms have arisen, focusing on project quality, additionality, fairness, accountability, and accounting methods' accuracy.

This report presents a study that assesses the impact of a solar bundled project in Turkey on GHG emissions reduction, with the aim of assessing the contribution of clean energy projects to sustainable development and climate change mitigation. The study focuses on the carbon offsetting mechanisms within the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) registry, specifically in the sector of renewable energy with a solar scope. Here the methodology section focuses on renewable energy (solar) sectoral scope among many. It describes the data collection methods and analysis techniques employed, while acknowledging potential limitations. The results section presents an overview of the solar project, providing details on its location and key performance indicators. It assesses the project's impact on GHG emissions reduction and compares the results with a baseline scenario.

The discussion section analyzes the environmental benefits and economic viability of the solar bundled project, exploring its potential policy implications and comparing it with other renewable energy sources. By doing so, it aims to contribute to the understanding of the effectiveness of carbon offsetting mechanisms and their role in climate protection, efficient GHG reduction, and social and environmental benefits.
