The thesis involves work done on 5 different regions. The first four are four districts in Uttar Pradesh where their watersheds are mapped under 13 different themes for further evaluation. These layers were generated in order to facilitate improvised productive potential of rainfed or land that has been degraded via the approach of an integrated watershed management system. Soil Land Capability Map addressed agronomical benefits while ground water potential map created for the watersheds represented water availability within the watershed. Fifth area is that of the Vizianagaram coast, Andhra Pradesh. Coastal assessment was conducted over this region with Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS v5.1) which was also the second environmental assessment whose output layers would assist the synthesis of Coastal Vulnerability Index. The information yielded by such assessments facilitates appropriate environmental planning and management as the immediate downstream undertaking.
