Abstract:

The carbon credits and their trading has become an integral part of the global climate mitigation measures. The Net-zero targets of an organization, company or nation itself require a promising and authentic carbon credit. No authentic generation carbon credit can be done without the help of carbon offset standards. Therefore this study aims to cover the study of these carbon offset standards under two objectives. Objective 1 aims to perform a comparative analysis of different carbon offset standards like VERRA, Gold Standard for Global Goals, and Global Carbon Council. keeping CDM as a baseline standard. The comparative analysis is done based on parameters like Market share, sectors/Sectoral Scope focused, available Methodology, the volume of Emission Reduction Issued, eligible project type, price of generated emission reduction, Additionality Criteria, and Requirement for approval of projects, Inclusion of other Co-benefits. Objective 2 aims to develop an index for the AFOLU projects to choose the best available methodology and standards from the available ones. The standards that are closed for the AFOLU projects are CDM, VCS, GS4GG,. The index is formed based upon the possible requirement of the project developers and based on the response to these requirements, the index takes the user to the best possible methodology and standard available to them for the successful implementation of the project activity.
