Covid-19 mitigation and resilience for the city of Rajkot: Major Project Part 1

Abstract:

The whole world is currently dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic and many adverse impacts on the economy and society are being experienced. Gujarat accounts for around 2% of total covid cases in India and Rajkot, the 4th largest city of Gujarat shares 7% of total positive cases in Gujarat. Each county and each state have adopted a different strategy to combat the adverse impacts of covid-19, minimise the human loss and provide safer environment to the citizens. After the initial hike in the positive cases in Gujarat, number of new daily cases have decreased. Rajkot has reported a smaller number of cases compared to other mega cities of Gujrat and has worked best to minimise the fatalities due to the same.

The study here tries to identify the strategies adopted by Rajkot Municipal Corporation along with the major issues and challenges faced to deal with this pandemic. The covid spread in the Rajkot is studied with respect to 4 stages of spread; January to April, March ending to June, June to August and From August till November. The major strategies adopted by RMC comprise extensive house to house surveys, active respiratory infection surveillance, incorporation of private players along with the use of latest technology. Along with these strategies, the major challenges faced are also explained. The Health department has achieved greater resilience to deal with such issues in the future.
