Abstract:

Solid waste management is the most important function for the development of any city. A robust solid waste management system is very essential for maintaining health and hygiene in the city. If there is no proper management of waste then it will be dumped into open and create pollution and have severe impact on environment and health and hygiene of the people. SWM includes Collection, segregation, transportation and disposal of waste. To ensure proper waste management and cleanliness of the cities, Government of India launches „Swachh Bharat mission‟ in October, 2014. This mission is launched all over India and all the local bodies of the country are advised to implement this mission in their respective cities. The main aim of this mission is to make the cities cleaner and promote better, hygienic environment. The main objective of this mission is to make our cities and villages free from open defecation. This mission also ensures that every city should have door to door collection of waste, have full source segregation so that there would be very lesser need of Landfill sites.
