India is witnessing the challenges of sustaining the rapid economic growth while dealing with the global threat of climate change. It is expected that Climate change might change the distribution and quality of India's available natural resources and scornfully affect the livelihood of the citizens. When an economy like India is closely related to its natural resources and the climate sensitive sectors like agriculture, water and forestry, India might face a major threat due to the predicted changes from climate. While engaging with the international communities to collectively deal with the projected threats, India requires a national strategy to adapt to the climatic changes and also to enhance the sustainable development path for India. In tackling the challenges of climate change India must act on several fronts in a dedicated manner simultaneously, as cities bear a magnificent responsibility for balancing all the requirements of present along with that of future generations, for the purpose of maintaining equilibrium and to minimise the effects of increasing urbanisation on the environment. A requirement of inculcating climate-sensitive resilience development approach in cities is required, which must not only be limited to implementation of urban infrastructure schemes but along with it must also adapt to and minimise the current challenges faced by cities.
