Abstract:

The study focuses on the processing of construction and demolition waste in east Delhi region as East Delhi region comprises the huge land which is unplanned and unorganized, growing haphazardly. The study focuses on the efficiency and effectiveness of the urban local body for making this project working. The research is being mainly focused on primary level management of the construction and demolition waste where local authority plays a major role in segregating, managing, disposing & collecting the waste with assessing it with construction and demolition management rule book 2016 and self-assessment for swachh bharat survekshan for 2021. The current scenario analysis helped to understand the current management of C&D waste at both secondary and primary level and to identify the challenges faced at every step of the process. The analysis is carried out through research of different interventions and best practices adopted or suggested for C&D waste management via secondary sources, site visits, and interviews with authority, local developers and contractors which provides a baseline to bring out a reasonable analysis and findings of the research. The recommendations are framed considering every challenge faced during the process of managing the waste but majorly focused and suggested at primary level management where local authority plays a crucial role.
