India has been experiencing rapid urbanization. According to Census 2011, the total growth in percentage of urban in total is 31% compared to only 11% in 1901. Indian urbanization have taking a steady growth ever since in a short span, when compared to other countries. However the Indian infrastructure is comparatively meagre. There is need to develop, expand and innovate the current infrastructure to meet the demand of current population and projection. In traducing digitization in governance is one way of resolving the huge chaos. In 2015, AMRUT introduced certain benchmarks for the urban local bodies to promote and maintain digitization within the system. One of the crucial is building permission system. With the recent declaration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uplift Indian Economy, it has been a made a mandatory for urban local bodies to take up certain benchmarks from AMRUT and work towards it. The current research discusses the Building permission plan and the need to digitize the current system in Gangtok Municipal Corporation, and further recommends the needed infrastructure for successful implementation of Online building permission system.
