‘Housing for all by 2022’ – the vision with which PMAY Urban was launched. The project components were designed to address the housing demands of not only the urban poor but LIG and MIG categories also. This approach was new comparing the previous housing schemes which provided housing and basic infrastructure to specifically slum dwellers. The city of Durgapur has 336 slums where 48044 households exists. This study had analysed the quality of housing structure, accessibility of sanitation and water supply in among the slums. Through this analysis the most vulnerable slums were identified. The study also analysed the process of beneficiary selection, coverage and the kind of projects that had been taken up under PMAY and the reason behind such choices. Also, the implementation bottlenecks of PMAY in Durgapur were also analysed. Reasons that caused delays were identified. These detailed analysis formed the basis of a set of recommendations that proposed to DMC, which would help solve the housing problems in Durgapur more effectively.
