Abstract:

Wildlife is disappearing at an alarming rate. Traditional techniques of wildlife monitoring and management are expensive, time-consuming, inefficient, and in need of better alternatives. The variety of cutting-edge technology being used in wildlife conservation is astounding, with novel applications such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its algorithms. To begin, this research looks into the numerous Artificial Intelligence applications in wildlife, marine, and land conservation. A thorough assessment of the literature and examples of Artificial Intelligence-based systems used worldwide to conserve endangered species, monitor and track animal behaviour patterns, predict wildfire, prevent human-wildlife conflicts, and detect illicit or unsustainable wildlife trade has been conducted for this purpose. This research also delves into the comprehensive investigation of AI-enabled unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the monitoring and conservation of Rhinoceros, a keystone species whose five different species are on the IUCN Red List of endangered species. The study also acknowledges the potential misuses of AI technologies, as well as the necessity for various sectors, including environmentalists, industry, and AI researchers, to collaborate and develop better metrics.
