Abstract:

Food is one of the basic human necessities of all living forms on earth. Over populated the earth and our population is going to further boom, which will require around 70% more food. However, our current agriculture practices are exploitative in nature and are constantly depleting our resources while polluting the environment. Agriculture also contributes to around 30% of global GHG emissions. Therefore, it is necessary to cut down the emissions before we further increase our production capacities. In fact, it would be even better if we could do both of them together, and that is exactly what 'Climate Smart and Sustainable Agriculture' strives to deliver. This project highlights how different technology and methods are being used across the agriculture sector to promote sustainability. From growing rice that uses less water to harvesting cocoa that is free of exploitative child labor. This research shows how researchers, farmers and agritech professionals are coming together to solve the most challenging problems in the agricultural sector. Using the right technology, it is possible to achieve higher productivity and boost the income of the farmers. At the same time developing climate resilient crops will help them save their crop against damages. The resultant will be more productive crops that are resilient and since they require lesser inputs - they will also help in reducing emissions.
