Abstract:

The major project at Price Waterhouse Coopers Services LLP was focused on creating the Peer Assessment for a manufacturing company in accordance with the GRI standards and the Integrated Reporting Framework. The primary tasks associated with this project was collecting primary and secondary data, identifying data gaps and performing data analysis. Firstly, the peers of the manufacturing firm were identified with the consultation of the company’s leadership team. The companies (peers) were mapped across the business sector alignment to manufacturing company’s line of business. Also, according to their ratings against 4 major ESG ratings. The four major ratings selected were MSCI, Sustainalytics and DJSI. These are reputed ratings that were chosen because they were followed by investors and therefore selected.

Another, criteria used to select the peers was the level of disclosure available. For understanding the level of disclosure, it was identified that the peer company has a sustainability report or an ESG report or an integrated report or a sustainability section of their webpage to ensure that we get a good dataset for comparison. Thereafter, a peer comparison of the scores was then conducted.

At Price Waterhouse Coopers Services LLP, I worked as ESG intern where I was given the opportunity to do the peer assessment for one of its clients. This clientis a large manufacturing company based in India. Its manufacturers lead, aluminum and plastic.

Keywords: ESG ratings, peer comparison, materiality assessment, environment performance, social performance and governance performance.
