Abstract:

Solid Waste Management is continuously being put in the spotlight as a major issue. It contributes greatly to the climate action with the increase in waste generation leading to different types of environmental pollution. This in turn also results in many health and sanitation issues for the people. Hence, it becomes important to talk on this issue as well as to actively work on tackling them. With the increase in the level of urbanization more and more people are moving towards large amount of waste generation and even larger number of people are unaware about waste management and treatment. So, this paper will be focusing on the status of waste management in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, its’ waste segregation, collection and disposal status along with the policy implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 within the municipality. The paper majorly highlights the need for people awareness and inclusion of different stakeholders as well as better waste management infrastructure development for managing waste affectively.
